A$108,000.00

A life size Italian bronze figure of a “drunken” satyr reclined on a naturalistically finished variegated grey marble plinth, cast by Chiurazzi, Naples, circa 1900. This magnificent figure is a copy of the ancient Greek bronze excavated from the Villa de Papiri at Herculaneum on July 13th 1754, having been covered following the eruption of Vesuvius.

This particular example was exhibited in the Italian pavilion at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition, also known as the St Louis World Fair. Another example of this bronze and further ancient pieces re-recreated by the Fonderia Chiurazzi can be found in the collection of the J.Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa.
