A 17th century Italian Capriccio: a depiction of an architectural scene within a fantasy landscape. Within the scene figures dancing in the forecourt of a palazzo beneath an obelisk carved with hieroglyphics. The palazzo with a pair of porticos and a colonnaded facade and gallery including carved marble classical sculptures.

Oil on canvas, attributed to Alessandro Salucci circa 1650.

Alessandro Salucci was born in Florence in 1590 and died in Rome circa 1655-60. He specialised in imaginary architectural perspectives (Capriccios) and harbour views where the figures in his paintings were often executed by another artist, notably Jan Miel and Michelangelo Cerquozzi.
