5799 A large and superbly modelled Japanese Meiji period seated bronze monkey, on finely carved naturalistic base in the form of a recently felled tree stump. The ape seated on the stump with his left foot clasping his right ankle and holding something tiny up to his eyes, perhaps a flea or similar (now missing). Signed beneath.
