A fine quality early 19th century Anglo Chinese amboyna and ebony centre table. Having a rectangular moulded top with ebony border and ivory banding and then a central panel of amboyna, above a pair of ebony cockbeaded drawers with camphor linings and turned horn knobs. The central spiral turned and acanthus leaf carved column mounted on a quatrefoil shaped ebony base with tall hairy paw feet and castors.

Circa 1850-60.

This is an excellent example of furniture made for an Englishman stationed in China, based on contemporary English designs, but using local craftsmen and local materials. Both this table and also the campaign chest are constructed from the highest quality timbers available.
