5100 A Japanese bronze Koro in the form of an elephant carrying a temple.

A large 19th century Japanese bronze Koro in the form of a caparisoned elephant carrying a temple on its back. The double story temple of pagoda style with a phoenix on the apex of the upper roof. Each level with open latticework and a galleried balcony and finely engraved details.

The stylised elephant adorned with jewels and a saddlecloth with phoenix relief design, raised trunk and interesting stylised features. This is a large Koro and would have been made for a person of high standing.

Elaborate signature panel under the belly of the elephant reads Hasegawa, Setsuinuzuka, Harusada
